I've never bought jute rope before. this is a great thread: I am not aware of any problems with jute twine. it is nontoxic, chewable, fairly sturdy, and can be braided or knotted into wonderful climbing ropes, which i crisscross through the cage for the rats'. I've been wondering what fabrics i could use for pouches and hammocks etc, but i don't. just ordered some jute rope from ebay with the intention of putting it in my rats cage. I think sisal is pretty good, it. natural material like sisal, jute, or hemp or cotton would be best and most rope sold for critters are made of either. i use jute for my rats toys :) a few people say it’s dangerous if their toe nails get caught but in my experience they can chew through it. sisal is safe, and so is jute and hemp which are very similar to sisal.
